POSTPARTUM INFORMATION - WEIGHT LOSS

Whilst you can expect to lose a fair portion of the weight you gained during pregnancy once the newborn has arrived, you will probably not be able to get back into your pre-pregnancy clothes just yet.

You may find that you continue to wear your maternity clothes for a few more months, just remember, the weight you have gained has been progressive over nine months, you can’t expect to lose it overnight. It normally takes a woman anywhere up to six months to lose the pregnancy weight, sometimes longer, depending on different factors contributing to your pregnancy weight gain.

Continue with a healthy balanced diet and moderate exercise and you should see your body return to its pre-pregnancy shape and weight. Vigorous exercise regimes aren’t recommended until you have been to your 6 week postpartum check up and given the okay. Diets are not recommended whilst you are breastfeeding, take this time to bond with your newborn and relax when you can, a gradual weight loss to return to your pre-pregnancy weight is recommended rather than a drastic weight loss.
