POSTPARTUM INFORMATION - VAGINAL DISCHARGE

This postpartum discharge is known as lochia, and will be like your normal menstrual period for up to ten days postpartum, although the first few days will probably be heavier than your normal period, this is normal.

The vaginal bleeding postpartum will gradually subside over the coming weeks. Once again, every woman experiences varied lengths with this discharge, one woman may experience the lochia discharge for a couple of weeks, whilst another woman may be burdened with it for up to three months, both are normal, however check with your health professional if you have a continued heavy discharge. Maternity pads provide high absorbency and are recommended for postpartum care.
