BABY CRYING

Babies cry for different reasons, it is their method of communicating. Reasons why babies cry include:

• Overtiredness
• Hungry
• Nappy change
• Too cold or too hot
• Wind

Dunstan baby language has developed a universal language with sounds which most babies make in response to their needs.

You should respond to your baby’s cry to reassure your baby that you will offer comfort and security to them. Holding your baby closely to you will provide them with such security.

Some babies may be settled by:

• Rocking rhythmically in your arms or a cradle/bassinet
• Wheeling in a pram
• Gently stroking or patting your baby
• Singing or playing soft music quietly to your baby
• Warm bath
• Sounds of washing machine, dishwasher or hairdryer
• Pacifiers

Remember to keep calm before trying to settle your baby as your baby may pick up on any tension.
