BABY DEVELOPMENT - 6 to 9 MONTHS
During this time, you will see your baby become more mobile, and exploring as much as he/she can.
By approximately 7 months, your baby may be able to sit unaided and might even start to crawl. Now is the time to invest in child proofing your house, if you haven’t already. Your little one will enjoy being held and bounced on your lap at this stage, which may be a bit tiring on your arms!
Your baby’s first teeth may start to appear during this period, if they haven’t already, and your baby will be introduced to a range of different foods during this time. Foods will tend to become less pureed, being coarsely pureed or mashed food, offering a coarser texture for you baby to chew as they become more experienced in their solids. It’s also a great time to offer your baby some finger foods to feed themselves, such as boiled carrot sticks, rice cakes or toast.
Some babies experience separation anxiety from about 6 months of age. This is where your baby will show hesitation around people they are not familiar with, and your baby may react by crying, screaming or clinging to their parent as they do not want to become separated. You can help your baby to feel safe by letting your child become comfortable with other people before they try to pick up or touch your baby. For instance, try holding your baby or sit your baby on your lap, giving your baby time to focus on someone else while they are in their own comfort zone, when your baby is ready they will show signs of enthusiasm to meet this person.
